Since 1998, our teams have developed a genuinely British site with the same commitment to customers, cutting-edge technology and rich editorial content that has made Amazon.com such a success. Our Slough teams manage all corporate functions, including vendor management, marketing, software development and legal.
Amazon Development Centre Scotland
Amazon Development Centre Scotland is located in central Edinburgh, next to Waverley train station. Since starting in 2004, software developers, designers and leaders have worked to create innovative technologies for our global websites.
We run four major parts of Amazon's worldwide business from end to end, which affords a great sense of ownership and opportunity for our engineers. We have a fun environment and use a lot of the Agile practices such as stand-up meetings, Scrum and Kanban for planning, automated testing, continuous deployment and pair programming.
From interactive UI design to large-scale distributed systems and machine learning, we do whatever it takes to deliver great experiences for our customers. Our freedom to execute effectively against broad, ambitious goals offers boundless opportunities for talented, innovative engineers.
Amazon Development Centre London
In 2012 Amazon opened a new global Digital Media Development Centre in London. The design and development teams from Pushbutton and LOVEFiLM, which are both Amazon companies, came together to work on new digital media projects that will benefit Amazon customers all over the world. The eight-floor, 47,000 sq. ft. centre in Glasshouse Yard, near to the Barbican tube station, houses teams of software development engineers, user-interface experts, graphic designers and product managers who focus on the creation of interactive digital services for TVs, game consoles, smartphones and PCs; the development of the digital media experience on Amazon websites around the world; and the build services and APIs that power that digital media experience.
IMDb is one of the largest and most popular sites on the web, used by millions of people every day. All of these are built upon our rapidly growing database of entertainment content, covering millions of names, titles, companies and events.
Evi, creators of the Evi AI and personal assistant app, joined the Amazon group of companies in October 2012. Headquartered in the beautiful and historic university town of Cambridge, England, the team is focussed on developing technology that combines natural language understanding, acquiring large volumes of structured knowledge and machine reasoning allowing humans to get answers to their questions in the most natural way possible.
The Book Depository
Specialist global bookseller The Book Depository joined the Amazon group in 2011. Based in a brand new office next door to Amazon's Slough HQ, we run a retail business (www.bookdepository.com) offering huge selection, great service, localized pricing and free shipping to book buyers worldwide.
